Contact Improvisation Contact Improvisation is a dance form which emphasizes an exploration of the underlying principals of movement as they play out in physical contact with a partner, the floor, and space. Contact Improv teaches us to trust, honor, and follow our own impulses while simultaneously attending to interaction with others, a great metaphor for life outside the dance stdio. It is also a delightfully playful and fun form of exercise. Because dances are improvised and focus on two or more people meeting in the moment in whatever state they bring to the dance floor, it is a form that is accessible to anyone. Each dance is collaborative and every dance is different. A Contact duet may be gentle and meditative or vigorous and athletic, fast or slow, serious or silly, and al or none of these. Contact as been described over the years using terms such as "Art/Sport," "Intimate Physics," and "Dancing the Shape of Water." Contact Improv brings human beings together in a safe and supportive environment, rooted in the body and open to the moment. It fosters a unique state of consciousness, in which one remains open to intention which simultaneously drawing creative energy from an underlying acceptance of what each moment has to offer.
