Service Description

Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR)® is an expressive arts-informed, whole brain, scientific approach to resolving trauma symptoms quickly, simply, and effectively. ITR is a practice-based, evidence-supported model that focuses on treating the roots of trauma rather than the symptoms. ITR was developed by Dr. Lou Tinnin, psychiatrist, and Dr. Linda Gantt, art therapist, after over 40 years of clinical experience dealing with traumas of all kinds. ITR primarily uses the non-invasive tasks of Graphic Narrative® and Externalized Dialogue® to re-code traumatic memory. These tasks mainly consist of drawing and writing. It allows fragmented memory to be stored in long term memory with a beginning, middle and end, without reliving the event. Then, a person’s True Self and Parts are engaged to strengthen the new pathways to better solutions, beliefs and behaviors. This greatly reduces or completely eliminates triggers and symptoms in the future and empowers the person to integrate back in their lives and thrive.
